How kids access LearnSpace at home

Family plans use a kids portal instead of separate child logins. You keep one parent account; tamariki open the kids portal with a simple home word you share.

This keeps setup quick for whānau and avoids children needing their own email addresses.

School words vs home words

LearnSpace uses two kinds of portal words:

  • Classroom words (teachers, school admins, principals) — work on school days during school hours (New Zealand time). After school ends, they stop working so kids need a home word instead.
  • Home words (parents) — work anytime, including evenings and weekends.

Each adult account has its own unique word. Words renew automatically on the 1st of each month.

Setting your portal password

  1. Log in to your LearnSpace parent account.
  2. On your dashboard, find the Portal password section (under Kids access).
  3. Copy the kids portal link (kids.learnspace.nz) and your home word.
  4. Share both with your tamariki on the device they will use.

You can regenerate a new password at any time from the same section if you want to change it.

Opening apps from the kids portal

  1. Tamariki visit kids.learnspace.nz (bookmark it on their device for easy access).
  2. They enter your portal password.
  3. They choose an app from the library and start learning.

No separate child accounts are required.

Bookmarking for tamariki

For the smoothest experience, add the kids portal to the home screen:

  • iPhone / iPad: open the link in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.
  • Android: open the link in Chrome, tap the menu, then Add to Home screen or Install app.

Keeping access secure

  • Treat your home word like a household PIN — share it only with tamariki in your whānau.
  • Classroom words should not be used at home after school hours; ask for the parent home word instead.
  • Your word renews on the 1st of each month — check your dashboard for the latest word.
  • Regenerate the password anytime if you think it has been shared too widely.
  • Supervise younger tamariki online, especially when they are learning on shared devices.

Changing or cancelling your plan

Portal access is included with an active Family trial or subscription. If your plan ends, kids portal access ends too. Monthly word rotation also means an old word from a cancelled account will not keep working. See managing your family plan for billing and cancellation.
