Our Approach to Curriculum Alignment

LearnSpace is built specifically for kura in Aotearoa New Zealand. Every app is designed from the ground up to align with the New Zealand Curriculum (NZC) and the refreshed curriculum content described in Te Mataiaho.

We do not adapt international content for a local audience — our learning progressions, feedback language, and assessment benchmarks are grounded in NZ frameworks from the start.

Te Mataiaho and LearnSpace

Te Mataiaho provides the common practice for teaching and learning in Aotearoa. LearnSpace apps support kaiako in delivering against these expectations by:

  • Structuring content around the understand–know–do framework.
  • Providing feedback and progress tracking linked to curriculum progress outcomes.
  • Supporting the bicultural foundation of the curriculum through inclusive language and contexts.

English Learning Area

MyFeedback Pro

MyFeedback Pro's six feedback modes map directly to the writing indicators within the English learning area:

  • Curriculum levels 1–2 (Years 1–4): Focus on ideas, conventions, and basic structure.
  • Curriculum levels 3–4 (Years 5–8): Emphasis on voice, purpose, and language sophistication.

Feedback language is calibrated to each level so tamariki receive age-appropriate guidance.

Word Wand

Word Wand supports the reading strand by building decoding skills, vocabulary breadth, and word knowledge. Its phonics mode aligns with structured literacy approaches endorsed in the NZC refresh.

Mathematics and Statistics Learning Area

Monster Maths Lab

Monster Maths Lab maps to the Number strand across curriculum levels 1–4:

  • Level 1 — Counting, simple addition and subtraction within 20.
  • Level 2 — Addition and subtraction with two-digit numbers, introduction to multiplication.
  • Level 3 — Multiplication and division facts, multi-digit operations.
  • Level 4 — Fluency with all four operations, problem-solving contexts.

Progress Outcomes

Each app tracks student progress against curriculum expectations. Your teacher dashboard displays achievement relative to the expected level for each student's year group, making it straightforward to identify tamariki who need extension or additional support.

Staying Current

As Te Mataiaho continues to be developed and refined, LearnSpace updates its curriculum mappings accordingly. We publish change notes in your dashboard whenever alignment updates are made.
